Update: Another race in NASCAR's "Chase" was run in Kansas City and, when the smoke cleared, and the checkered flag finally waved, local native Brad Keselowski remains narrowly ahead of the always formidable Jimmy Johnson in the quest for this year's championship. Go Brad. Running a limited schedule in this year's series of races, the always lovable Danica Patrick was amongst the competitors.
Prediction: Hard to say. Keselowski has top-notch gear and crew, and has certainly quickly proven in the last couple years that he's matured to the point where he's as good as anybody else out there when it comes to on-track racing, from super-speedways to bumper cars on the short tracks. But who dares count out the wily old vet JJ, a former 5 year in a row champion? He's got the experience and a top-flight team behind him as well.
The usual: Danica was driving another brand new green car -- and Danica totalled another brand new green car. Apparently, she experienced another one of her hissy fits after another driver, far behind the race leaders as well, had the unmitigated gall to make incidental contact with her own car a few laps before. The NERVE of that guy -- so she tried to wreck him. She wound up wrecking her own car. It's about $300,000 a pop to build such cars, and the lovely Danica seems to have no qualms over throwing them away like last week's beef stew. I'm thinking if this trend continues, those "Go Daddy" folks that sponsor her might be crying for their "mommies" before long when they read the financial bottom line of the destruction she continues to wreak. Yours truly has long thought there was something else going on with that particular Go Daddy logo on her car, but could never tell for sure as that car was speeding around. If so, it's in the fine print. Between the words "Go" and "Daddy" in big letters, I suspect there are very tiny letters that have always said "Sugar".
OMG John...try to imagine that the folks at Go Daddy don't care if she wins any races. They only care that her sexy body and sweet smile shows up for all their Advertising. Think of it this way..it cost $150,000 per minute of Ad time during a normal race, they get at least 25 times that amount of coverage during a race with Danica driving their Go Daddy car for a mere $300,000. That would equate to two minutes of purchased advertising. I am guessing that they keep several cars handy. LOL

Oh, they keep several cars handy alright -- because they don't have a choice. Danica goes through them like a baby goes through disposable diapers. Still, if you're a bean counter at Go Daddy, the question becomes -- would you rather throw away $300,000 every time she climbs into a race car -- or not?
DeleteJohn: They are not throwing away $300,000 every time she get in a race car. She is the highlight of the race a good deal of the time because she is a pretty female driver. So, here is how the numbers work. If they purchased approximately 25 minutes of advertising on any given race it would cost 3,750,000. They get almost that same value for only $300,000 in the form of a wrecked car. Sounds like a win/win situation to me. LOL

It's a pretty safe bet Danica will make the highlight reels alright -- see the mangled green heap in turn 2. And let's not forget, it's not just Go Daddy paying the tab -- many times she takes out other cars as well. Somehow I don't think those drivers and teams have all that much appreciation for Go Daddy's ad strategy, while they're building a new car themselves. Though we're likely in the minority, there are those us that have never found her the least bit attractive and, even if we did, nobody can see her inside the car anyway. Point noted about the bang for the bucks regarding the ad time, but if I'm the guy paying for those cars, I'd just as soon see one of them make it into another race or two, at least every once in a while. Now THAT would be a win/win/win. LOL
DeleteJohn...you are way to practical. I am just saying these guys dont care...Danica has a lot of followers because she is sexy...even if they can not see her in the car. Men are strange creatures that way....like those visuals...and dont pretend you dont look....LOL
