The King is back

Humbly bow and submit, you pitiful little heathens. Thou shalt obey, praise, suck up, kiss-ass, and donate money to the cause. His Royal Highness is back.

No, it's not an Edward, George, James, or Henry from England. Not a Louis from France nor a Ferdinand from Spain -- or was that Portugal? Russia? Peter was called "the great" and the Nicholases were tsars, but I never heard of a "king".

Michael Jackson? Nope. Pretty sure he won't be coming back.

The King -- Elvis? Nah, he left the building on a one way trip a long time ago.

Not even the mighty King Kong himself, Fay Wray in one hand and a Kardashian in the other, scaling the Empire State building one more time would cause this kind of stir.

Has the biblically predicted "Second Coming" occurred?

Close. Tiger Woods has decided to play a golf tournament. Never mind that he's not in the top 50 golfers in the world anymore, and the tourney hasn't even started yet -- the hype has begun. Call the press conferences, give the talking heads an extra dose of amphetamines, and pass the offering plates -- or at least go buy something he endorses. Pass out the campaign buttons and bumper stickers. Put signs in your front yard, distribute a billion fliers, set up the robo-call network, and let the chain letters (if you don't forward this to at least 10 people, you will suffer eternal damnation) begin.

The KING is back. Millions will be delirious with joy, drop to their knees for prayers of thanks, and begin worshipping anew.

Me? I'm thinking Anti Christ. Good looking, well spoken, and while seemingly doing whatever he wants, much of which would get "normal" people in serious trouble, the mere mention of his name makes his popularity soar, even though the only thing he was ever good at was hitting a golf ball -- and he's not even good at THAT anymore. Yet, there's something about this guy that draws adoring fans like an electromagnet draws iron.

Beats me what it is, but I want no part of it. Never did, from his beginning, to when he was winning everything, to now.

Worship if you will, but this not royalty, by any means.

Perhaps a court jester -- but certainly no King.

  1. You are the only one dumb enough to call him the "king". Everyone who knows anything about golf knows that Arnold Palmer is the only one who will ever be referred to as the king.

Besides that, before starting your rant, check your facts so that you don't make yourself look so inept. Tiger IS in the top 50. And if you had checked, you would find that in the past couple weeks he finished 3rd in the Emirates Austrailian Open and hit the ball very well every day in the President's Cup a week ago, finally finding his putting stroke in his singles win.

Tiger let everyone down who held him in high esteem, but everyone forgot he was just a golfer, not a saint. The embarrassment he caused his family and himself was unforgivable. His behavior was awful.

Now lets compare him with what has transpired in the last couple of months at Penn State and now Syracuse.

What Tiger did was betray and cheat on his wife. How many have done that? His actions were immoral. His actions WERE NOT criminal.

If you want to rant about something, make it something important, like how those young kids were assaulted by those coaches. And all of those who covered it up.

And please tell us, "doing whatever he wants, much of which would get "normal" people in serious trouble.." ...what would we be in serious trouble for? He did nothing criminal. And he did get in as much trouble as he could for cheating. To imply it was more than that makes you look really stupid.

To bag on Tiger because you don't like him is your right, I guess.

It is my right to reply. And don't consider my reply sticking up for Tiger, just sticking up for truth.

  2. Al. You're right, of course. I forgot all about Arnie being the King. My bad. As for what may or may not have happened at Penn State -- I weighed in on that a few weeks ago, when the story first broke. Check the November blog posts. In a nutshell, I find it difficult to write about kids being assaulted when it hasn't been proven yet that they even were. Same with Syracuse. Jury's still out. He said, she said, and I don't know. Neither do you, at this point.
As for Tiger, I don't like him or dislike him. Mostly I get a kick out of stirring the pot to see what comes back from those,(not you), that worship him.
Emirates Australian Open? That surprised me too. No, not that Eldrick finished third, but that they have emirates down under these days. When did that happen?
I'm afraid to ask who owns all the party stores.
    Thanks for commenting.

  3. So John, you say " In a nutshell, I find it difficult to write about kids being assaulted when it hasn't been proven yet that they even were. Same with Syracuse. Jury's still out. He said, she said, and I don't know. Neither do you, at this point."

Yet you previously opined about Tiger Woods "seemingly doing whatever he wants, much of which would get "normal" people in serious trouble".

You did not answer my question, what would get us in trouble that didn't already get us in trouble?

Seems you are selective in coming to conclusions. The Penn State and Syracuse situations have already resulted in people being fired, they don't get fired for nothing.

However you allude to Tiger being involved in something other than his sexual infidelity and indiscretions which would get others into serious trouble. What is it? And why would you, not knowing, throw something like that out if you aren't simply a Tiger hater?

  4. Al. Let me spell it out for you. What other trouble might ordinary people run into given such infidelity? Depending on their vocation -- how about losing their job? Tiger might have lost a few sponsors but as long as he can swing a golf club, he has no worries when it comes to money. Too many suckers.
You telling me I'm coming to conclusions over the Penn State and/or Syracuse affairs is laughable. If you'd read what I've written about it, you'd know I've taken a strong stance AGAINST jumping to conclusions before all the facts are in.
People don't get fired for nothing? Are you kidding? Look around. Unless one has union representation -- it happens all the time.
Once again, I really don't care about Eldrick one way or the other. He's just another high profile guy out there, and fair game when it comes to opinions. Newspapers, mags, on-line updates, blogs, talking heads, tabloids -- you name it. It goes with the territory.
    I opine. Others whine. There's a difference.
